BASECAMP GOALS
My goals for this basecamp are simple – I am highlighting the knowledge I have gained during my time in the LDT program at UCD through the body of work I have completed in this program. I also want to demonstrate to prospective employers (and even my current employers) the depth of knowledge I possess as a teacher-librarian. Ultimately, this basecamp will serve as a reminder of the work still before me. I do not know it all, but I have a solid foundation from which to work to improve my skills and knowledge. This basecamp demonstrates all the areas I will need to continue to refine and revise. It offers me a place to reflect on where I have come from and where I need to go on this journey.
BASECAMP RATIONALE
I elected to use a WordPress site for my basecamp because I have prior experience using this platform. I also wanted a clean, uncluttered approach to my portfolio while still being able to add and revise the artifacts, theme, or apprearance I have on my site. I also own my domain, so it is mine as long as I pay the renewal.
As an intended gallery of my work, I know I have the flexibility to grow and change the site as I need to for any future demonstrations of my work, including more regular library article blogs and book reviews. This is where I began the journey, and I need to make time to continue posting these artifacts so I can see the growth in my continuing education. As a formative tool, this site serves to remind me of the path I have tentatively carved out for our library, including the mission and vision statements, and my own education as a professional librarian.
BASECAMP REFLECTION
As I conclude my formal training and education in the LDT program at UCD, I am realizing that I have so much more to learn. I began this journey knowing very little about how to run a library much less about how to offer quality programming to my patrons. In the nearly two years it has taken me to complete the coursework, I have only scratched the surface, but I have a stronger foundation than I did on day 1. Having had the privilege of actually working in a library while in this program, I was especially lucky to immediately apply the knowledge and skills I was learning in my classes. Additionally, I connected with a network of educators who still communicate and share ideas and resources with me. This outcome has been invaluable for me when I have needed an outside sounding board and one of the biggest reasons why I haven’t lost my mind.
Looking toward the upcoming year, in what I can only hope will be a “normal” year, my vision for the library is to make it the hub of all that happens in my building. While we have been used as a crisis center this year, we haven’t had the chance to host evening literacy events for families as I had hoped we would do when we opened. My goal is to have host monthly themed events for families that focus on literacy and robotics. When families in our community can see the resources (and access to those resources) we have readily available, they will have a better understanding of how we can boost their student’s achievement and make my current principal’s vision of “one year’s growth in one year’s time” a reality.
